Stichopitella was named by Mostler (1969) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Nori-l Tr Nori-u Sepkoski's reference number: 982]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Stichopitidae by Mostler (1972) and Krainer and Mostler (1997); and to Dendrochirotida by Sepkoski (2002).
