Ornaticannula was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo R Sepkoski's reference number: 960]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Ornaticannula bonhourei.
It was assigned to Stichopitidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) and Frizzell and Exline (1966); and to Aspidochirotida by Pawson (1966) and Sepkoski (2002).
