Parvispina was named by Kornicker and Imbrie (1958) [Sepkoski's age data: C Ms T Mi]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Stichopites spinosus.

It was assigned to Stichopitidae by Kornicker and Imbrie (1958), Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) and Frizzell and Exline (1966); and to Aspidochirotida by Pawson (1966) and Sepkoski (2002).
