Thisbites xiangyunensis was named by Liang (1977). Its type specimen is NIGP 24144 and is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is YHC742, Xiaoqingpo, Xiangyun County, which is in a Lacian marine shale in the Yunnanyi Formation of China.
