Siphonariidae was named by Gray (1840) [m. kosnik taxon no: 5322]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Siphonariacea by Sohl (1964); to Basommatophora by Gordillo (1991); to Basommatophora by Kaim (2004); and to Siphonarioidea by Todd (2001), Jeffery (2003) and Bouchet et al. (2005).
