Jereina was named by Finks (1960) [Sepkoski's age data: D P Leon-u Sepkoski's reference number: 203]. Its type is Jereina cylindrica.

It was assigned to Jereidae by Finks (1960); to Lithistida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Anthaspidellidae by Finks et al. (2004).
