Taxonomy
Paleochiridota was named by Croneis and McCormack (1932) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Step-u Sepkoski's reference number: 768]. Its type is Paleochiridota plummerae. It is the type genus of Paleochiridotidae. It was considered unknown by Gilliland (1993).

It was assigned to Holothuroidea by Croneis and McCormack (1932); to Protocaudinidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962); to Elasipoda by Deflandre-Rigaud (1952) and Pawson (1966); to Apodida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paleochiridotidae by Frizzell and Exline (1966), Gilliland (1993) and Kozur and Mostler (2008).
