Taxonomy
Rota was named by Langenheim and Epis (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l P Guad Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Rota martini. It was considered unknown by Gilliland (1993).
It was assigned to Theeliidae by Langenheim and Epis (1957) and Gutschick (1959); to Protocaudinidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962); to Apodida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Paleochiridotidae by Frizzell and Exline (1966), Gutschick et al. (1967), Wernlund (1977), Gilliland (1993) and Kozur and Mostler (2008).
