Spandelites was named by Frizzell and Exline (1957) [Sepkoski's age data: J Oxfo Sepkoski's reference number: 960]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Synaptites irregularis.

It was assigned to Synaptitidae by Frizzell and Exline (1957); to Synaptellidae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962); and to Apodida by Sepkoski (2002).
