Stueria was named by Schlumberger (1888) [Sepkoski's age data: Tr Carn-u R Sepkoski's reference number: 982]. It is extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Stueria elegans.

It was assigned to Holothuroidea by Schlumberger (1888); to Theeliidae by Frizzell and Exline (1966), Mostler (1971), Soodan and Whatley (1988) and Soodan (1991); and to Apodida by Sepkoski (2002).
