Calcancorella was named by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962) [Sepkoski's age data: T Ol-l R Sepkoski's reference number: 960]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. It is the type genus of Calcancorellidae.
It was assigned to Calcancoridae by Deflandre-Rigaud (1962); to Calcancorellidae by Frizzell and Exline (1966); and to Molpadiida by Sepkoski (2002).
