Nautilus neocomiensis was named by d'Orbigny (1840).

It was recombined as Cymatoceras neocomiensis by Kummel (1956); it was recombined as Cymatoceras neocomiense by Shimansky (1975), Delanoy et al. (2012) and Barroso-Barcenilla et al. (2022).
