Nautilus desertorum was named by Quaas (1902).

It was recombined as Angulithes (Cimomia) desertorum by Wiedmann (1960); it was recombined as Cimomia desertorus by Shimansky (1975); it was recombined as Eutrephoceras desertorum by Hewaidy et al. (2019); it was recombined as Cimomia desertora by Wilmsen and Aly (2019).
