Devonistella was named by Spencer (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: D u]. It is not extant. Its type is Helianthaster filiciformis.

It was assigned to Protactininae by Spencer (1927); to Helianthasteridae by Owen (1965); to Lepidasteridae by Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Pustulosida by Sepkoski (2002).
