Paraharpes ottawaensis was named by Billings (1865).

It was recombined as Harpes ottawaensis by Billings (1865); it was recombined as Dolichoharpes ottawaensis by Sloan and DesAutels (1987); it was recombined as Hibbertia ottawaensis by Shaw (1968) and Ebach and McNamara (2002).
