Taxonomy
Lepidaster was named by Forbes (1850) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-u]. Its type is Lepidaster grayi. It is the type genus of Lepidasteridae.
It was assigned to Lepidactinidae by Spencer (1918); to Pustulosida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Lepidasteridae by Schuchert (1915), Owen (1965), Spencer and Wright (1966), Herringshaw et al. (2007) and Blake (2018).
