Taxonomy

Siluraster was named by Jaekel (1903) [Sepkoski's age data: O Cara-m]. It is not extant. Its type is Siluraster perfectus.

It was assigned to Mesopalaeasterinae by Owen (1965); to Silurasterinae by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Pustulosida by Sepkoski (2002); to Hudsonasteridae by Schuchert (1915), Dean Shackleton (2005) and Herringshaw et al. (2007); and to Palasterinidae by Blake (2018).

Caractacaster caractaci, Caractacaster yarraensis, S. caemorensis, S. ketleyi, S. perfectus (type species)

Synonyms

Caractacaster was named by Spencer (1916). Its type is Palaeaster caractaci.

It was synonymized subjectively with Siluraster by Owen (1965), Spencer and Wright (1966) and Dean Shackleton (2005).

It was assigned to Mesopalaeasterinae by Spencer (1916) and Withers and Keble (1934).
