Lepyriactis was named by Spencer (1927) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl Sepkoski's reference number: 2]. It is not extant. Its type is Lepyriactis nudus. It is the type genus of Lepyriactinidae.

It was assigned to Taeniactininae by Spencer (1927); to Helianthasterinae by Owen (1965); to Lepyriactinidae by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Hemizonida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Euaxosida by Blake (2018).
