Taxonomy

Palasterina was named by McCoy (1851) [Sepkoski's age data: S Ldov D l]. Its type is Uraster primaevus. It is the type genus of Palasterinidae. It was considered monophyletic by Dean Shackleton (2005).

It was assigned to Eoactinidae by Spencer (1922); to Hemizonida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Palasterinidae by Gregory (1899), Schuchert (1915), Withers and Keble (1934), Lehmann (1957), Owen (1965), Spencer and Wright (1966), Dean Shackleton (2005), Herringshaw et al. (2007) and Blake (2018).
