Delthyris granulosa was named by Conrad (1839).

It was recombined as Spirifer granulosa by Hall (1893); it was recombined as Spinocyrtia granulosa by Frederiks (1916) and Pitrat and Rogers (1978); it was recombined as Spinocyrtia granulosus by Rode and Lieberman (2004).
