Yarravaster was named by Spencer (1950) [Sepkoski's age data: S]. It is not extant. Its type is Caractacaster yarraensis.

It was assigned to Mesopalaeasterinae by Owen (1965); to Eoactinidae by Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Uractinida by Sepkoski (2002).
