Argoviaster was named by Hess (1972) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bajo-u]. It is not extant. Its type is Argoviaster occultus.

It was assigned to Neomorphasterinae by Hess (1972); and to Forcipulatida by Sepkoski (2002).

H Hess 1972Disk relatively small. Arms sub-cylindrical. Ambulacral plates numerous, apressed. Ambulacral pores quadriserial. Adambulacral with three short spines. Plates of the arms arranged in longitudinal and transverse rows, with small papular field at each corner. Actinolateral plates and well-differentiated marginals frequently with conical spines. Dorsal plates with reduced ornament of granules, and occasionally a central cavity. Primary pates of the disk not differentiated.
