Dermaster was named by de Loriol (1899) [Sepkoski's age data: J Bath Sepkoski's reference number: 911]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Dermasterinae.
It was assigned to Dermasterinae by Hess (1972); to Forcipulatida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Asteriidae by de Loriol (1899) and Gale (2011).
