Taxonomy

Stegocornu procerum was named by Dürkoop (1970).

Synonyms

Xerxespirifer iranicus was named by Cocks (1979). Its type specimen is BB 93453, a shell (conjoined valves), and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is 2.5 km northeast of the town of Rabat-e Qarabil, which is in an Aeronian carbonate limestone in the Qarabil Formation of Iran.

It was synonymized subjectively with Stegocornu procerum by Popov and Cocks (2013).
