Pegaster was named by Blake and Peterson (1993) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp-l]. It is not extant. Its type is Pegaster stichos.

It was assigned to Asteriidae by Blake and Peterson (1993); and to Forcipulatida by Sepkoski (2002).
