Zoroaster was named by Thomson (1873) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u R]. It is extant.

It was assigned to Forcipulatida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Zoroasteridae by Sladen (1889), Spencer and Wright (1966) and Gale (2011).
