Cenomanaster was named by Wright (1951) [Sepkoski's age data: K Ceno]. It is not extant. Its type is Asterias cenomanensis.

It was assigned to Goniasteridae by Wright (1951) and Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Valvatida by Sepkoski (2002).
