Fayoumaster was named by Roman and Strougo (1987) [Sepkoski's age data: T Eo-u T Mi-m]. It is not extant. Its type is Fayoumaster pharaonum.

It was assigned to Goniasteridae by Roman and Strougo (1987); and to Valvatida by Sepkoski (2002).

J. Roman and A. Strougo 1987Goniasteridae with rather long, acute arms. Well-defined, large madreporite. Five primary interradial abactinals differentiated bearing tubercles. Large interradial abactinals organized in to rows, encircling the primary interradial. Other abactinals polygonal, tessellated. Carinal row differentiated in the arm with few lateral abactinals. Marginals wide in the disc tend to be longer, quadrate in the arm. Superomarginals granular. Inferomarginals with a single robust spine. Adambulacrals with one or two subambulacral spines.
