Pseudarchaster was named by Sladen (1889) [Sepkoski's age data: J Tith-u R]. It is extant. Its type is Pentagonaster discus. It is the type genus of Pseudarchasterinae.
It was assigned to Goniasteridae by Clark and Downey (1992); to Pseudarchasterinae by Sladen (1889), Spencer and Wright (1966) and Eagle (1999); to Valvatida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Pseudarchasteridae by Gale (2020).
