Plectambonites rugosa clarksvillensis was named by Foerste (1912).

It was recombined as Thaerodonta clarksvillensis by Wang (1949) and Howe (1972); it was recombined as Sowerbyella rugosus clarksvillensis by Caster et al. (1961); it was recombined as Sowerbyella clarkesvillensis by Liberty (1969); it was misspelled as Thaerodonta clarkvillensis by Fox (1968); it was recombined as Eochonetes clarksvillensis by Cocks (2013) and Bauer and Stigall (2016).
