Teichaster was named by Spencer (1913) [Sepkoski's age data: K Camp T Mi]. It is not extant. Its type is Teichaster favosus.

It was assigned to Goniasteridae by Spencer (1913) and Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Valvatida by Sepkoski (2002).
