Taxonomy
Metacoceras cooperi was named by Miller (1945). Its type specimen is USNM 111612 and is a cast. Its type locality is USNM702a, Split Tank, Glass Mountains, which is in a Kungurian reef, buildup or bioherm limestone in the Cathedral Mountain Formation of Texas.
It was recombined as Foordiceras cooperi by Miller and Youngquist (1949); it was recombined as Pleuronautilus cooperi by Shimanskiy (1967).
