Lophidiaster was named by Spencer (1913) [Sepkoski's age data: K Albi-l T Mi-l-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Astropectinidae by Spencer (1913); to Astropectininae by Spencer and Wright (1966); and to Paxillosida by Sepkoski (2002).
