Rhynchotrema increbescens occidens was named by Wilson (1926) [The lectotype selected by Jin et al. (1989)
= Rhynchotrema pisina Wilson 1926 p. 22, pl. 4, fig. 13]. Its type specimen is GSC 6746 and is a 3D body fossil.
It was recombined as Hypsiptycha occidens by Jin et al. (1989), Jin and Lenz (1992), Jin et al. (1997) and Jin and Zhan (2001).
