Acinetaster was named by Kesling (1982) [Sepkoski's age data: D Give]. It is not extant. Its type is Acinetaster konieckii.

It was assigned to Acinetasteridae by Kesling (1982); to Stenurida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Stenuroidea by Blake (2013).
