Catastroboceras consanguineum was named by Shimanskiy (1967). Its type specimen is PIN 1513/368, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Dombar Hills, North Kazachstan, which is in a Pendleian marine wackestone/marl in Kazakhstan.
