Taxonomy
Discites gigas was named by Tzvetaev (1898). It is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Serpukhov area, which is in an Asbian/Brigantian marine horizon in the Russian Federation.

It was recombined as Domatoceras gigas by Shimanskiy (1967).
