Liroceras fornicatum was named by Shimanskiy (1967). Its type specimen is PIN 1192/772, a shell, and it is a 3D body fossil. Its type locality is Zmeinka quarry, Pronya river, Mikhaylov region, which is in a Brigantian marine horizon in the Russian Federation.
