Taxonomy
Asteronyx was named by Müller and Troschel (1842) [Sepkoski's age data: K Maes-u Sepkoski's reference number: 1066]. It is extant. It is the type genus of Asteronychidae, Asteronychinae.

It was assigned to Asteronychinae by Matsumoto (1915); to Phrynophiurida by Sepkoski (2002); and to Asteronychidae by Spencer and Wright (1966), Jagt (2000) and O'Hara et al. (2018).
