Aplocoma was named by d'Orbigny (1852) [Sepkoski's age data: J Hett-u J Plie]. It is not extant.

It was synonymized subjectively with Aspidura by Pohlig (1878).

It was assigned to Ophiurinae by Spencer and Wright (1966); to Aplocomidae by Hess (1965), Hess (1970), Hess (1985) and Hess (1991); to Ophiurida by Sepkoski (2002); to Aplocominae by Hess and Meyer (2008); and to Ophiolepididae by Thuy et al. (2012).
