Taxonomy
Banksieaephyllum orientalis was named by Carpenter and Jordan (1997) [Type Locality: Cethana, Tasmania.]. It is not extant. It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type specimen is Holotype: C-524 (the only specimen observed), stored in the Department of Plant Science, University of Tasmania., a leaf (Cuticles). Its type locality is Cethana Dam, which is in an Oligocene lagoonal siltstone/sandstone in Australia. It is the type species of Banksieaephyllum.

R. J. Carpenter and G. J. Jordan 1997Leaf pinnatisect into about eight lobes per side. Lobes relatively straight on the apical side, basal side convex. Three principal veins per lobe. Stomates superficially placed, in vein areoles. Surface striations absent.
