Banksieaephyllum linearis was named by Carpenter and Jordan (1997) [Type Locality: Cethana, Tasmania.
Specimens Examined: C-624, C-888, C-846.]. It is not extant. Its type specimen is Holotype: C-624, stored in the Department of Plant Science, University of Tasmania., a leaf. Its type locality is Cethana Dam, which is in an Oligocene lagoonal siltstone/sandstone in Australia.
