Parafatsia was named by Blackburn (1981). It is considered to be a form taxon. Its type is Parafatsia subpeltata.

It was assigned to Araliaceae by Blackburn (1981); and to Proteaceae by Carpenter et al. (2006).

D. T. Blackburn 1981Leaves bilateral, palmatifid, peltate. Primary venation basal actinodromous. Secondary veins eucamptodromous, giving rise to tertiary vein branches terminating in marginal teeth, Stomata paracytic. Hair bases on both surfaces, scattered, mainly above veins. Hairs longitudinally 2-seriate near base. Cuticle of both surfaces radially striate around hair bases.
