Taxonomy
Archaeocrinus was named by Wachsmuth and Springer (1881). Its type is Glyptocrinus lacunosus.

It was assigned to Parablastoidea by Hudson (1907); to Diplobathrida by Moore and Laudon (1943) and Sepkoski (2002); and to Rhodocrinitidae by Ausich (1998) and Cole et al. (2018).
