Nyctocrinus was named by Springer (1926) [Sepkoski's age data: S Wenl-l]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Nyctocrinidae.

It was assigned to Nyctocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); and to Diplobathrida by Sepkoski (2002).
