Orthocrinus was named by Jaekel (1895) [Sepkoski's age data: D Emsi-u D Eife]. It is not extant. It is the type genus of Orthocrinidae.

It was assigned to Orthocrinidae by Ubaghs et al. (1978); and to Diplobathrida by Sepkoski (2002).
