Ptychocrinus was named by Wachsmuth and Springer (1885) [Sepkoski's age data: O Ashg-m S Ldov-u]. It is not extant.

It was assigned to Dimerocrinitidae by Ausich and Dravage (1988); and to Diplobathrida by Sepkoski (2002).
