Rhaphanocrinus was named by Wachsmuth and Springer (1885) [Sepkoski's age data: O Llde-u O Ashg-m Sepkoski's reference number: 2. Spelled in Sepkoski Compendium as Rhaphaocrinus, but almost certainly a mis-spelling on his part.].

It was assigned to Rhodocrinitidae by Ausich (1998); and to Diplobathrida by Sepkoski (2002) and Sepkoski (2002).
