Taxonomy
Goniatites spiralis was named by Phillips (1841). It is the type species of Neoglyphioceras.

It was recombined as Neoglyphioceras spirale by Ruzhentsev and Bogoslovskaya (1971) and Tongtherm et al. (2016).
