Ancalocrinus was named by Webster and Lane (1987) [Sepkoski's age data: C Tour-l C Tour-u Sepkoski's reference number: 704]. It is not extant. Its type is Actinocrinus spinobrachiatus.

It was assigned to Actinocrinitinae by Webster and Lane (1987); and to Monobathrida by Sepkoski (2002).
